The Top Grossing Software on iOS Devices in 2012? Games, of Course

Here's a not-so-shocking revelation about 2012: games were the most popular software on iOS devices in 2012 according to data released by Apple and collected by Inside Mobile Apps. Seven of the ten highest-grossing iPad apps and ten highest-grossing iPhone apps were games, according to the data.

The most profitable game of 2012 on iPhone was Kabam's Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North, while the best selling iPad app was Backflip Studios' DragonVale. Games were also prominent on the paid downloads charts, representing eight of the top ten iPhone apps and seven of the top ten iPad apps. It should come as no great surprise to anyone that Rovio's Angry Birds Space was the most popular paid download on both platforms. The full list of apps can be found below:
