Poll Results: Are You Planning on Checking out the Esquire Network?

Last week we asked our readers: "Are you planning on checking out the Esquire Network?" It looks like the majority of you either have no interest in seeing the future bastardization of G4TV, or you just don't have any idea of what the heck the Esquire Network is. In case you didn't hear, G4TV – the owners (NBC Universal) of the channel that was partially dedicated to geek culture, gaming, and technology (when it wasn't showing reruns of Cops, Cheaters, American Ninja, James Bond movies, etc.) announced that it would become known as the Esquire Network.

Anyway, 302 of you participated. Of that number only two percent (6 votes) said you'd check the new network out when it launched later this year. Meanwhile a whopping 62 percent (188 votes) said you would not check out the network. Another 36 percent (108 votes) pretended that you had no earthly idea of what the Esquire Network is…

Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll. If you'd like to hear some witty commentary from Andrew Eisen and E. Zachary Knight, then you can find it in Episode 41 of the Super Podcast Action Committee.

For the record, in case I didn't make it clear (which I didn't because I was being a smarty pants) I was joking in the post about people "pretending." If your feelings were hurt I am sorry – and I have a box full of hugs for you fresh from the hug store. Here's one right now: *HUG*

Honestly, I would say that two people who are immersed in gaming culture not knowing what G4TV is enough to fully comment on it is pretty damning of the network. I wouldn't say that having such a network is bad or not worth the effort, I would say that it is. However, something this niche, needs to be handled in such a way that niches are handled. A major cable channel dedicated to the gamer niche just doesn't cut it. That is why I think that anything targeting gamers in the future is going to be web based.

It's true, I never watched G4 but I do know what it is.  And I know what X-Play and Attack of the Show are.  And who Adam Sessler is.  I've seen clips here and there online.  But yeah, I'm unfamiliar with most of its programming or any of the shows Esquire is adopting because I don't watch TV.  I don't pay for cable; heck, I don't even have Netflix.

I wrote that poll because I was generally curious if anyone (fan/watcher of G4 or not) was going to give its rebranding a try.

I watched Attack of the Show and X-Play all the time, and watched all of the network's event coverage, but I wasn't doing any commentary. In all seriousness many will feel the loss of what G4 contributed on TV when the trade shows for this year start – GDC, E3, etc.  I won't speak for Andrew's or EZK's lack of entertainment options – clearly they are what people like to call chord cutters – just as many of our readers are.

After listening to the podcast, I find it odd that this poll was even conducted now that I know that neither Andrew nor EZK knew what was on G4. Each time a show was mentioned, I kept hearing, "Yeah, I assume that's a show…" I don't blame you for avoiding the channel (since it sucked after a while), but I took the poll under the assumption that someone would know about what they were polling.

And by the way, Olivia Munn was one of the hosts of Attack of the Show! She was also briefly in Iron Man 2, she starred in The Babymakers and has been in a few other random movies and TV shows.

I apologize that you do not recognize comedy, or that I think my feeble attempts at it are found to be lacking. I guess you and I will adorn our pillows with many, many tears tonight.

Who's pretending? I didn't even know G4 was an actual station, i thought it was just some crap gamestop and other places played at random, or some crappy internet stream.

Don't have cable/Sat/ant, so can't say I'd care even if i had a chance, but lets not assume tis all false when some claim they don't know of something.
