Microsoft Promises Bans for Those Playing Pirated Version of Gears of War: Judgment

February 19, 2013 -

Microsoft promises "vigorous action" against those individuals who downloaded a pirated version of Gears of War: Judgment. The complete copy of Gears of War: Judgment appeared on internet torrent sites overnight and some decided to download it and play it (some played it online as well), much to the dismay of Microsoft.

"We are aware of isolated cases in which Gears of War: Judgment content has been propped on the web and are working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation immediately," a Microsoft spokesperson told Eurogamer this morning.

"Consumers should be aware that piracy is illegal and we take vigorous action against illegal activity related to our products and services."

Similar to how it handled the early leak of Halo 4 online, Microsoft promised a lifetime ban for those player accounts that have been found to be playing the game early.

"Playing pirated copies of games, such as Gears of War: Judgment, is a violation of the Xbox Live Terms of Use and will result in enforcement action, such as account and console bans."

The game is set for release in late March.

If you like GoW, you deserve to be banned anyway.

I find myself having no problem with this. If one is fool-hardy enough to download a pirated copy of the game from a public torrent tracker (the contents of the download I can only begin to fathom what someone with less-than-chaotic-neutral moral alignment might have added) and insert it into your console WHILE ONLINE (and, if you happen to be offline, then gain achievements which are date stamped for Microsoft's enforcement to see when you decide to plug in your console come that fateful Tuesday), then you probably deserve the ban...
