Layoffs have reportedly hit Timegate Studios, the development studio that helped co-develop Aliens: Colonial Marines alongside Gearbox Software. The number of layoffs are unknown at this time but Timegate has confirmed to Polygon that these layoffs have in fact happened.
"We had to make the difficult decision to let go of some great game developers. This is never easy, and we're doing all we can to assist those developers affected," Timegate president Adel Chaveleh told Polygon yesterday. "Timegate is preparing, as is the entire industry, for the transition to next-generation consoles and new business models. As part of this reinvention, all projects and strategic initiatives continue to move forward at the studio."
Officially Timegate says that these layoffs are part of its preparations for "the transition to next-generation consoles and new business models." Some rumors claim that these layoffs are instead due to a publishing deal that fell through.
Unofficially, sources close to the situation claim that 25 people were laid off.
