Activision Lays Off 40 at High Moon Studios

April 3, 2013 -

Activision has confirmed with GameSpot that it has laid off around 40 full-time High Moon Studios employees following the completion of Deadpool. High Moon Studios is best known for Deadpool and Transformers.

"Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues--this is an ongoing process," the company said in a prepared statement. "With the completion of development on Deadpool, we are taking a reduction in staff at High Moon Studios to better align our development talent against our slate."

"Approximately, 40 full-time employees will be impacted globally. We are offering those employees who are impacted outplacement counseling services," the statement continued.

Deadpool is due out this summer for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

In other words, "your game is done, so we're throwing you all under the bus." Is anybody surprised by this kind of thing anymore?

Especially from Activision. They and EA perfected the idea of the disposable studio.
