Raven Software Releases Source Code for Two Star Wars Games

After the news yesterday that Disney was shutting down LucasArts, Raven Software decided that it was a good time to release the source code to two of its Star Wars-themed action games, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

"Raven is sad to hear about the closing of LucasArts today, we respected them and enjoyed working with them over the years," Raven Software said in a statement to Kotaku Australia. "We wish the best for all the talented people who were let go and hope they find good work in studios in the industry."

"We loved and appreciated the experience of getting to make Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy for LucasArts. As a gift to the persistently loyal fanbase for our Jedi games and in memory of LucasArts, we are releasing the source code for both games for people to enjoy and play with."

You can find the source code to Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy on Sourceforge and the code for Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast on Sourceforge as well.

Jedi Outcast is still one of my favorite games.  Jedi Academy added some cool moves and powers, but the story was shit because they half-assedly tried to give you "choice" about what order to do missions in.  Also, you did not play as Kyle Katarn.  That's a pretty big check in the minus column right there…
