SimCity Cheetah Speed Returns, Update 2.0 in the Works

April 10, 2013 -

It's been a while since the disastrous launch of EA's "always-online" game SimCity and things have calmed down enough that Maxis has turned "Cheetah" speed back on. Maxis had disabled the "fastest game mode" in SimCity on March 7 because the game's servers were having trouble staying online. Now that everything has calmed down a bit it has decided that it's safe to let players build their cities in hyper mode again.

"Yes, it's true -- we've recently brought back Cheetah Speed," Maxis wrote on the official Facebook page for the game.

Maxis added that it was working on what it calls Update 2.0, though it did not reveal just what might be in this new update. Elsewhere it was revealed that the Mac version of the game is on track for release in June. Mac users should be grateful that the game did not launch at the same time as the PC version - we all know how that went. Hopefully Mac players will have an easier time playing the game on launch time...

I won't be getting it out when the Mac version comes out. I don't mind online features, but the be online or we will kick you out of single player is a strict deal breaker for me.

Unless an update ends that always online crap, I ain't interested.

What are you, some kind of Luddite? Always online is the future. Peter Moore told us so.

I was about to defend myself, then my sarcasm detector went off.
