Earthbound Finally Returning to North America After 19 Long Years

You may recall a digital protest in the Wii U's Miiverse way back in late January concerning Nintendo bringing Earthbound (or Mother 2 as it is known in Japan) to territories outside of Japan. Well Nintendo apparently paid attention, announcing today that the game would finally be making its way to North America and Europe via the Virtual Console sometime later this year.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the news during today's Nintendo Direct presentation. The game has been out for quite some time on the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan, so Western fans are delighted to get their hands on the game. The original Earthbound for the Super NES was released way back in 1994. It only took Nintendo 19 years to re-release the game. Ahem.

Iwata promised fans that more information on the Virtual Console release of the game will be revealed in the next couple of months.

I understand.  For me it would simply be to mention "Super Metroid".  I want that game as a portable so bad it hurts.  Heck, I would gladly pay full price for an enhanced 3DS port even.
