Poll Results: Should Nintendo Exit the Hardware Business?

Last week I asked if Nintendo should exit the hardware business.  571 of you chimed in with an opinion and 56% of you think Nintendo should keep producing consoles while 13% say Nintendo should drop the hardware business, go third-party and focus on outputting software.

Of course, 4% of you (25 people) think Nintendo should pack it in altogether.  Man, a world without Nintendo.  That sounds horrible but as Alfred Pennyworth said, "Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Meanwhile, some voters thought Nintendo would be wise to focus on one or the other.  26% say Nintendo should forget consoles and focus on handhelds but only 1% (7 people) said it should forego the handheld business and concentrate on consoles.

Thanks to everyone for participating!  I should have a brand spanking new poll for you cool cats tomorrow.  In the meantime, here is my favorite comment on the topic courtesy of reader AMCApril:

True, I was thinking about it just from the business perspective.  The annals of gaming history are littered with the corpses of challengers to Ninty's handheld dominance.  It would be silly of them to shitcan just that one part of their business.

I wanna see them make the Poll 'Who bought a PS Vita'

I have never found a good reason to buy one.

Another Poll I wanna see: 'Should Square-Enix FINALLY end Final Fantasy?'

    I vote yes

As I mentioned on the podcast, the selfish side of me kind of wanted to vote for that option because I highly prefer console gaming to handheld.  In fact, with very few exceptions, whenever I play a handheld game I spend most of my time bemoaning the fact that it's on the handheld and not on the console where it would be a significantly better experience.

I can only imagine that the 7 people who said Nintendo should abandon their handheld business were attempting to garner "lulz".
