A note to investors from financial analyst firm Cowen and Company predicts that NPD numbers will show a double digit decline in retails sales until the next Madden game hits store shelves, and that April will see a shortfall of 13 percent compared to last year.
Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz said he expects the NPD Group's April numbers to be released on Thursday to show that software sales dipped 13 percent year-over-year. Creutz also predicts that only one title, the DC Comics-based fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, to sell more than 250,000 units. He puts the sales on that title at around 424,000 copies.
Finally Creutz doesn't expect a rebound until Madden hits in August. From there the industry will start to gain some momentum as some of this year's biggest releases start to roll out to retail such as Grand Theft Auto V and Battlefield 4..
