PSA: Free Xbox Live Games Delivered on the 1st and 16th of Every Month

The official Xbox Live website reveals that on the 1st and 16th of every month Xbox Live gold subscribers can expect a new game. While Microsoft has not said why it suddenly started handing out free games to Gold members, some believe it is the company's way of competing with Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription model which hands out freebies every month. Whatever the reason for these free giveaways, it's tough to badmouth a promotion where people get full free games – even if they are slightly dated…

The giveaway program, "Games with Gold," was officially announced during Microsoft's E3 press event. The program kicked off June 10 with Fable 3 In July two more games will be given away to Gold subscribers: Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3. Only one free game will be available at a time at the dates we described earlier.

Nice to see them trying to match Sony's stride, but really, they waited too long for something like this to effect anybody who was curious about which console to buy next generation. E3 kind of sold them on the Xbox One not being a good choice. True, MS changed their policies and are scrambling to get back in people's good graces, but it took a big hit to its reputation when they sold out their CONSUMERS to make publishers feel better.
