Double Fine's latest crowdfunding efforts on Kickstarter for the fantasy strategy game Massive Chalice ended with a total of $1.2 million raised. The company created the Kickstarter page in May with the hope of raising $725,000. That goal was surpassed in early June, and as of this week Massive Chalice raised almost double what Double Fine was seeking. With funding secured, Project lead Brad Muir is putting together a separate team within Double Fine to create the game.
Massive Chalice is described by Muir as a fantasy strategy game that uses combat mechanics found in games like Final Fantasy Tactics and X-COM. The game will be set in a fantasy world that spans multiple ages and focuses on a system where lineage and blood lines impact the hero that you play. This is accomplished through bloodlines and marriages via a special breeding mechanic. The game will also make use of research trees and kingdom building.
The game is scheduled for release in late 2014.
