GameStop Shuts Down PS4 Pre-Orders

GameStop has shut down pre-orders for the PS4, according to a Game Informer report. According to the story, the top video game retailer in North America has run through its launch allotment of systems. GameStop issued a one sentence statement confirming the news:

"Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4," a GameStop rep. told the publication.

The spokesperson went on to say that online reservations would be available "while supplies last," but GameStop's website has since been updated to note that the console is currently sold out. Those who are interested in being informed on changes to that status can leave their email address to learn when reservations are available again.

Much of this high demand occurred after both Microsoft and Sony held their respective press events during E3 in June. Microsoft's bad messaging on used games, privacy concerns with the Kinect and an online requirements drove many consumers in droves to Sony's next-gen console.

Gamestop (or in my case EBGames) does that too. I pre-ordered my 3DS there and they actually shipped it to me EARLIER than the official release date so that it would arrive by the time the console was supposed to come out. Only drawback is shipping is NOT free and time will tell whether they send it early again (hopefully I will also have Knack by the time it arrives).

who would use Gamestop when you could just preorder on amazon the second it was available and get free release date shipping? I did.
