MCV is reporting that MMO publisher Trion Worlds will close its European office located in Guildford, UK by week's end. The European headquarters for the company will lay off ten employees and close the office this week, according to the report. Staff affected by the closure include Trion Europe boss John Burns, communications boss Jon Goddard commercial director Jeff Pabst, senior brand manager Dominic Wai and PR manager Gary Burns. MCV has confirmed the news with Trion, who offered the following statement:
"As part of its recent company realignment, Trion’s European publishing office based in Guildford, UK, will be closing down," the company said in a statement. "European localized versions of Trion’s live and upcoming games will not be affected as all regional game development and support continues from Redwood City, CA."
Trion Worlds operates four online games in Europe and North America including the SyFy transmedia tie-in game Defiance, MMORPGs Rift and ArcheAge, and the online strategy title End of Nations.
Last week Trion Worlds closed its San Diego offices, laid off the staff there, and moved development of Defiance to its Redwood City, CA offices.
