Plants vs. Zombies 2 Downloaded Over 16 Million Times

EA's recently released free-to-play iOS sequel has the distinction of being the "most successful mobile game launch" in the company's history. Developed by EA studio PopCap Games, Plants vs. Zombies 2 has been downloaded 16 million times since its launch last Thursday on Apple's App Store.

The game has topped Apple's App Store charts in 137 countries around the world as well. EA also claims that people are spending a lot of time playing the game too; according to internal data, players have logged more than 25 million hours with the game since its launch last week.

EA is currently at Gamescom showing off the new "boss mode" in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare – a new Xbox One exclusive mode that uses SmartGlass and Kinect. The game will be on Xbox One and Xbox 360 first. EA and PopCap also announced an update for Plants vs. Zombies 2 called Far Future. No release release date was given.

For now, Plants vs. Zombies 2 is only available for iOS devices, but EA plans on bringing it to other platforms later this year.
