Gamescom Attendance Up 23 Percent This Year

August 26, 2013 - GamePolitics Staff

Gamescom, the annual gaming event that took place in Cologne, Germany last week was a big hit according to organizers. Organizers of the event announced details on attendance, exhibits, and more. According to the data it released, 340,000 people attended the event last week. It is an astounding number compared to last year's attendance numbers: 275,000 showed up in Cologne last year to take in all the latest games and gadgets. All told, attendance was up 32 percent this year...

The attendance record makes sense given that Gamescom is more like PAX than it is like E3: Gamescom is open to the public, and not limited to industry professionals and the media. And it's a lot bigger than both. While PAX organizers no longer keep track of attendance numbers, the last recorded attendance record for PAX Prime in 2011 noted that 70,000 people attended the event.

Organizers also said that over 635 exhibitors from 40 countries presented 400 world premiere titles, and Microsoft and Sony debuted their respective next-generation console systems to European gamers. Finally, 6,000 journalists (up 15 percent from last year) from 61 countries covered the event live from Cologne.
