Humble Origin Bundle Inches Towards $10 Million

The Humble Origin Bundle is inching towards another milestone – the $10 million mark. As of this writing the bundle is at a little over $9.6 million with nearly 2 million bundles sold, and an average price of $4.91. The bundle includes Dead Space, Dead Space 3, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Crysis 2 Maximum Edition, Mirror's Edge, and Medal of Honor. Paying more than the average price will get you The Sims 3 + Starter Pack, Battlefield 3, C&C: Red Alert 3 – Uprising, and Populous.

All of the games except Battlefield 3, The Sims 3 + Starter Pack, Populous, and Dead Space 3 are available for Steam. Those four titles will require you to install Origin on your system. The Sims 3 is the only game available for Mac.

Unlike previous Humble Bundles, this one is not DRM-free. If you can get by that fact, then you can head on over to and purchase the bundle… One-hundred percent of EA's profits are being given to five charities: the Human Rights Campaign; Watsi; the San Francisco AIDS Foundation; the American Red Cross; the American Cancer Society; and GamesAid.

Just shows you where the market is going. Free to play should be bigger in 2014 and beyond. Even companies selling on Steam noticed that cheaper prices means sales, and actually works out better for them in the long run. It's that sell a few at high prices vs. selling a lot at a lower price. Lower price is winning out.

Unless those users just bought the bundle for the Steam games. Given that the average purchase price is $4.92, significantly less than most Humble Bundles, it's safe to assume most people are paying less.

Accept you miss what may be the TRUE reason why EA is doing this humble Bundle; to get more people to use Origin. EA may not make any money off this deal, but they may have netted themselves a million new Origin users which could turn into profit later down the line. Once you use a system the first time, its very easy to use it the second time.

To be fair, all of the proceeds from the Bundle goes to charity. It's like EA is subtly acknowledging that everyone hates them enough to vote them Worst Company in America twice.
