LEGO Challenges Skylanders and Disney Infinity with LEGO Minifigures Online

It looks like LEGO is going to get into the toy-game crossover business established by Activision's Skylanders and adapted by Disney's Disney Infinity game with a game of its own. Luckily for both those franchises, the game and the supporting mini-figures will be used for an online and iOS title being developed by Funcom – and not on consoles. The online game, LEGO Minifigures Online, is set to go live next summer and will use a new range of $2 toys that include an unlock code to add a virtual version of a playable character into the game.

LEGO Minifigures Online is being developed by Funcom, best known for creating the MMOs Age of Conan, Anarchy Online, and The Secret World.

"We want players to get the same feeling they get from unwrapping a figure as when they get that character in game," said Lawrence Poe, executive producer at Funcom, during the game's first demos at Gamescom last week (as reported by MCV). "LEGO games come with certain expectations of quality – and LEGO has very high values as a company – so Minifigures Online has to reflect all of that."

LEGO Minifigures Online will be released on PC, iOS and Android sometime in 2014. You can get a first glimpse at the game by watching the video to your left or visiting Funcom's LEGO Minifigures Online Site.

Ah yes, that much is true, and I admit this comes from being spoiled by the likes of GTA and Saints Row, but their open world offerings, granted only two so far, need a lot of work.

Eh, the quality of the games is pretty subjective, hell, I enjoy them.

As for minifigure pricing, eh, you're pretty much right on for the current run, they might be going by the prices the ones pictured were sold at.

You wouldn't get that impression by playing any of the LEGO games from Travelers Tales. cheeky

Also, I call funny business on that $2 minifigure price. The current run of special minifigures clock in at $4 per figure. Unless these are some single cast "minifigures" there is no way they would be that cheap.
