Sony Aims to Sell Five Million PS4s by March 2014

During its Tokyo Game Show press conference today in Japan, Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House said that his company wants to sell five million PlayStation 4 consoles in the first four months of availability. Sony hopes to hit this goal before the end of its 2013 fiscal year, which closes at the end of March 2014.

"Our plan is to sell 5 million PS4s by the end of 2013," House said.

Later Sony Computer Entertainment President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida clarified on Twitter that the figure will include sales until the end of March next year.

The PlayStation 4 launches first in North America on November 15, followed by European and Australian releases on November 29. Yesterday the company announced plans to release its new home console in Asian territories–South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan–in December this year. The system will not go on sale in Japan until February 2014.

Yeah, but the PS3 had fairly new technology that was slow to create (bluray and maybe the processors). From what I understand of the PS4, there's not really any cutting edge tech in it that should bottleneck production.

Fricken hilarious to hear this from them. The only thing that has ever held Sony back was Sony. They could have easily done this with the PS3, but they couldn't produce enough.
