Microsoft Exec: PS4 Content Can Be Displayed Through Xbox One

September 20, 2013 - GamePolitics Staff

According to what was said by a Microsoft executive during a round table Q&A at the Tokyo Game Show today, you can display your PS4 games on your Xbox One. Microsoft executive Albert Panello confirmed that Xbox One users could theoretically multi-task between both new next-generation consoles launching in November here in the United States and Europe.

"Any application can be snapped to a game... so if you wanted to be playing Ryse and Killzone at the same time, you could snap that," he said, as quoted by Gamespot.

This would be possible using the Xbox One's HDMI -in port. Panello's comments seem to indicate that this would also allow Xbox 360 and PS3 gameplay to be displayed on the new system as well.

Panello also warned journalistw that putting the Xbox One in a vertical position is not recommended or supported by Microsoft this time around. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 supported this ability. The Xbox One needs to be firmly on the shelf this time around, it seems...

Finally that talk about not making the console stand vertically. They keep adversing the 360 standing vertically, although that allows more risk of your disc being scratched...

The ability to stream your PS4 output through your Xbox One sounds like a fairly good idea if you don't want to constantly switch inputs on the TV or there are a lack of HDMI in ports to accommodate all your hardware. However, I wonder if that requires the Xbox One to be turned on as well as it seems silly to have both consoles running when you really only want to to use one of them. Lastly, I get the feeling that most will only buy one or the other new gen console. There seems to be quite a divide between the two groups of people.

Next week....

'Our apologies for the miscommunication. The Xbox One has always been designed to be able to stand vertically or horizontally based on the customer's preference. We hope this clears up any confusion.'

It will probably come about after all the Warranty replacement requests stemming from people positioning the console incorrectly due to a lack of realization that this cannot be set up the same way as their 360.

Personally, I never set up any of my consoles vertically as I never had a need to do so.
