The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced today that it will honor Sony president Kazuo "Kaz" Hirai as this year's Champion Honoree at its annual charity gala event and dinner, Nite to Unite. Hirai has had a profound impact on Sony, playing a key role in shaping Sony’s vision for the PlayStation video game consoles and the company's handheld devices, as well as the PlayStation Network. Past Champion Honorees include Blizzard Entertainment's Mike Morhaime and Valve Software's Gabe Newell.
"I'm extremely honored to be recognized by the ESA," Hirai said in conjunction with the announcement. "Being a part of the gaming world for the past 18 years, where I've had the opportunity to work with some of the most creative and brilliant people across the globe, has been one of the most rewarding periods of my career."
The ESA's Night to Unite celebrates its 16th year honoring the industry and raising money for charity. The annual fundraising event put together by the ESA raises for college scholarships and grants to youth organizations.
Nite to Unite will take place Wednesday, October 23, 2013, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco.
