DICE Creative Director: ‘We Should Be Slapped For Load-Outs in Battlefield 3’

Speaking to VG247, DICE creative director Lars Gustavsson admitted that the company made a mistake with how it structured the unlocks in Battlefield 3, going so far as to say that he should probably be "slapped for it."

"We shipped Battlefield 3, which we should be slapped for, with probably the worst set-ups ever," he said.

"As a pilot, you had to fly your plane and only kill other planes with your cannons. You didn't have any counter-measures; you didn't have any missiles," he added. "And that's basically for the best of the best pilots; that's what they should do to show their skills. [As a beginner], you should have counter-measures, you should have heat-seeking missiles to give you a smooth ride into the game and then from there on you should customize."

Gustavsson went on to say that the company has smartened up and is being a little more careful and thoughtful about the load outs and abilities for multiplayer in Battlefield 4 it creates.

"So that's what we've tried to do; the full set-ups are supposed to be quite easy to learn and to master, and from there you can start unlocking things and seeing what your preferred setup is. So, a lot of learning from Battlefield 3 have gone into making the game."

TBH not sure how i feel about it in 4 so far. Assuming its working at all, the requirements to even so much as gain level 1 from 0 is outrageous. the first dozen or so levels should hook a person and make them feel like they're achieveing something before slowing down and becoming more work. So far in beta is just feels like i've already gotten half way up the ranks and now i'm just grinding for the sake of grinding…

Something tells me they're going to sell double XP packs or something….

I said it when BF3 released.. Glad to see they agree :)

though I'm kinda leary of starting firearms already having things like the laser sight, and a dot/scope..
