Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V has become the 12th best-selling game of all time in the UK, overtaking its predecessor's lifetime sales – and only after three weeks at retail – according to UK retail sales tracking firm Chart-Track. The firm reports that GTA V sold 1.57 million units in the UK on day one of release, beating out previous record holder Call of Duty: Black Ops' 1.41 million in sales to become the fastest-selling game in UK history.
Chart-Track numbers also indicate that Grand Theft Auto V is now the UK's 12th best-selling game of all time, and has raked in the fifth largest revenue in gaming records. Grand Theft Auto V has now almost equaled the total amount of money made by Call of Duty: Black Ops, the firm claims.
While GTA V is doing pretty well in the UK by all accounts, it was not able to take the top spot in the UK. This week's best selling game in the UK was FIFA 14 followed by GTA V, F1 2013 and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Just Dance 4 launched in ninth place, with NBA 2K14 landing in seventh.
