Poll Results: Will Capcom Sue Mighty No. 9 Devs for IP Infringement?

Last week we asked readers, "Will Capcom sue the Mighty No. 9 devs for infringement of its Mega Man IP?" While there was no clear majority opinion, around 35 percent of the 301 votes cast concluded that Capcom will ignore the game altogether.

Given how much cold hard cash has been raised by the former Mega Man developer's studio, that line of thinking is debatable. It also doesn't help that Mighty No. 9's protagonist looks an awful lot like the Blue Bomber, and has many of the same types of powers…

Around 32 percent believe Capcom will rush out a new Mega Man game of its own to counteract Mighty No. 9, 24 percent believe that "Beck will get Mega-busted" (lawsuit!), and nine percent think Capcom might license Mega Man for a cameo in the game.

Thanks to everyone who voted. Look for a new poll later this week! For an even deeper discussion, check out episode 72 of the SuperPAC podcast.

Ya, i doubt capcom would be able to make a case; the game has enough similarities that you could go as far as to call it a rip-off of mega man, but there are more than enough differences that it wouldn't hold up in court.

Capcom will try and fail, because if Zynga can get away with blatantly ripping off other people's games, Mighty No. 9 can get away with being an "inspired by" game.

I didn't really vote in the poll as I wasn't sure how to answer, but honestly, with some of the boneheaded things Capcom has done, it woudln't surprise me.
