Ubisoft Delays Watch Dogs, The Crew

October 15, 2013 - GamePolitics Staff

Ubisoft has changed the release window for three titles today. First, the good news: Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will launch globally on October 29 for Wii U, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, an improvement on its previous target date of Nov. 1 in Europe and Oct. 31 release in Australia. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will still get the game at launch on Nov. 15 (Nov. 29 in Europe) and Nov. 22 in Australia. The PC version of the game was originally scheduled to release alongside the current-gen versions, but was pushed back to the next-gen release.

The bad news? Both The Crew and Watch Dogs have been delayed significantly, forcing the company to issue a warning on profits for the fiscal year. Ubisoft's Watch Dogs has been delayed until sometime in Spring 2014, a push of at least four months. The game had been previously confirmed for release on Nov. 19 in North America and Nov. 22 in Europe for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC, with PS4 and Xbox One versions becoming available alongside the launch of the next-generation consoles.

A statement from Ubisoft explains the delay:

"Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming," the company said, "it is with this in mind that we've made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014."

"We know a lot of you are probably wondering 'why now?' We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality."

"As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience."

Ubisoft's next-generation online racing game The Crew has been delayed until sometime between its second and third calendar quarter of 2014 (between April and Sept. of next year). The game is being developed at France studio Ivory Tower with the help of the UK-based Ubisoft Reflections. The game was previously set for release in the first quarter of 2014. The Crew is being developed for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

The company issued a profit warning later in the day, saying that the delay of Watch Dogs will affect profits for the fiscal year ending April 2014. The company initially expected to make $1.94 billion by the end of the fiscal year in April 2014, but now believes that figure will arrive at $1.38 billion.

Re: Ubisoft Delays Watch Dogs, The Crew

I'm glad they're delaying Watch Dogs.  That means it's a buggy piece of shit right now.  I'm glad they're taking the time pre-launch to fix it, because I sure wouldn't count on much post-launch.  If they released on time, they'd take their money, laugh all the way to the bank, and let it remain a buggy piece of shit forever.

Re: Ubisoft Delays Watch Dogs, The Crew

What the article fails to mention is the thousands and thousands of gamers who preordered the Watchdogs PS4 bundle. With the game being delayed, what does this mean for their console preorder? Did Sony just lose thousands and thousands of preorders?
