Recently the Human Interfaces division of NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, California released a video on YouTube showing how game-related technologies like Microsoft's Kinect motion sensing hardware and Oculus VR's Oculus Rift headset could be used together to control a robotic arm remotely.
The video (which you can watch to your left) shows a NASA engineer controlling the JACO robot arm in real time to pick up a block. The Kinect is used to operate the arm, while the Oculus Rift provides a first-person 3D interface for the operator. Future versions of the combined technology will integrate sensor array data. This will in turn be used for the Robonaut 2 humanoid on the International Space Station in the future, according to NASA.
