Hot on the heels of Microsoft announcing that it sold 3 million Xbox One since its launch in November, Sony rolled out its sales number for the PS4. The system, which launched on November 15, sold 4.2 million units worldwide in 2013. The company made the announcement during its Consumers Electronics Show press event today.
Sony announced that it has sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide as of December 28, 2013. The figure is an estimate by SCEI, and is based on “sell-through,” representing units sold to consumers.
On December 1 the company said it had sold 2 million units since its November launch. The 4.2 million figure is good news for Sony who initially predicted sell-through numbers of around 3 million by the end of 2013. Sony says that it hopes to sell 5 million by March, a number – given its current trajectory – which should be easy to surpass.
