Fundraising Campaign for Sick Blizzard Engineer Meets Its Goal

January 9, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

With 17 days left to go before the YouCaring crowd-funding campaign to raise funds for Ron Nakada (the Senior Software Engineer at Blizzard Entertainment who is battling through Stage IV colon cancer) ends, it has managed to surpass it goal. As of this writing $25,664 has been raised from 678 backers.

The campaign was launched by inXile employee John Alvarado in December to help pay down some bills associated with his friend's illness that weren't covered by his insurance. Through various media stories and an outpouring of support from the gaming community, it looks like Ron and his family won't have to worry about bills piling up in the new year.

In a recent update on the page for the campaign, John Alvarado shared his joy at hitting the funding goal:

"The answer is YES! We surpassed the $25k goal before the new year, with a few hours to spare! Thank you to friends of Ron, Kevin & Constance, for a very big donation that put us over the top, and thank you to all the 600+ donors that have helped get us here and who have shared their words of encouragement."
