Minecraft on Xbox 360 Sells 12 Million Copies To-Date

April 4, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has now sold 12 million copies to-date at retail and online through Xbox Live Marketplace. Along with the announcement of the milestone, Microsoft also revealed that a new mod pack for the game called the Candy Texture Pack will be released on April 18.

"I remember when we started talking about sales numbers that we would be super happy to sell 1m copies," Mojang's Daniel Kaplan said. "That would have put us on par with BF 1943 and Castle Crashers, which both are awesome games, so that was something to aim for."

"We never even dreamed of selling 12 million!"

Minecraft's total sales across all platforms are somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 million, with 12 million sales on Xbox 360, around 14.7 million on PC, more than 10 million on mobile devices (Android, iOS) and at least 1m on PlayStation 3.

Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the games are also in development, and are due to be released "eventually."

I know I am killing a dead horse, but why is this even here?  This is pretty generic industry rag stuff, and threads of conversation already fall off the front page too quickly.
