Microsoft: PlayStation's TV No Threat to Xbox Original Programming

April 7, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Xbox Entertainment Studios boss Nancy Tellem tells Bloomberg in this video interview that the PlayStation Network's television offerings are not a competitive threat to what Microsoft is doing with its Xbox Live original programming.

Tellem claims that the Xbox Entertainment Studios division has been working for a year and a half on creating its content, which is set to make a grand debut in June.

"Microsoft's dedicated a whole studio to support this kind of content development," Tellem said. "Original content is something that everyone's toying with right now. It's very unclear how committed they are to that on PlayStation."

Tellem also said that learning about the vast number of franchises available to her studio that are a part of Microsoft was a "wonderful discovery" when she first arrived.

"Whether it's from a game like Fable, or Age of Empires, or Gears of War, or Forza... or Halo," Tellem said. "These are things that, frankly if we weren't attached to Microsoft, everyone would yearn to have. It's an amazing platform to work from."

And neither are a threat to actual TV!

Ohhh, this should end well... It really doesn't matter if you perceive them as competition, the thing is they're basically doing the exact same thing you are which makes it competition... It really feels like they're starting to fall back into their "Daw, nobody's going to care about DRM!" crap they went through prior to the XBone's launch, but in regards to their competition instead of consumers...
