King Settles Trademark Disputes With 'CandySwipe' and 'The Banner Saga' Makers

April 17, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Candy Crush Saga maker King has settled two of its most prominent trademark disputes - one with The Banner Saga developer Stoic Studio and the other with CandySwipe developer Albert Ransom. Both developers acknowledged on their respective web sites that they have worked out their problems with King.

Stoic was in a dispute with King over using the term "Saga" in the title of its game, while Candy Swipe developer Albert Ransom was disputing King's trademark claims because his game's release predated the release of Candy Crush Saga.

"Stoic is pleased to have come to an agreement with King regarding Stoic's The Banner Saga trademark, which enables both parties to protect their respective trademarks now and in the future," the developer wrote on its website.

CandySwipe developer Albert Ransom posted a statement on his web site:

"I am happy to announce that I have amicably resolved my dispute with King over my CandySwipe trademark and that I am withdrawing my opposition to their mark and they are withdrawing their counterclaim against mine," Ransom wrote on his web site. "I have learned that they picked the Candy Crush name before I released my game and that they were never trying to take my game away. Both our games can continue to coexist without confusing players."

King has not publicly commented on the story.

Re: King Settles Trademark Disputes With 'CandySwipe' and ...

Sounds like fake evidence, and even if it's real, so what? The name that launched first stands. Even if you claim the name was privately picked in advance, there was no way for HIM to know. Anyway, sounds like they got scared of the PR battle and went for settlements, so their own trademark remains unchallenged.

sounds like they both got hit with too many lawyers and silenced tbh.. Wonder what the details are of the two settlements...

King needs to be taken down, not the others...
