‘Battlefield 1942’ for Free Through Origin This Month

Origin's 'On the House Program' is offering Battlefield 1942 for free this month. The game is free to download and keep, no string attached – except that you have to install and use EA's digital distribution platform. Last month EA gave away Dead Space for free.

EA plans on continuing to release full games, expansions, and more at no cost for the foreseeable future.

If you like free stuff and don't mind installing Origin, then you can grab Battlefield 1942 from this link.

interesting move.. you'd think they'd have released 2142 for free instead since BF4's newest DLC pack has a mode stylized after the original 2142 titan mode..

albeit a TERRIBLE new rendition.. they should've stuck to how the old one worked.. this new one is an absolute joke :(

Not to mention its likely KIA once the gamespy servers go.

I highly doubt EA is looking that far back for its "legacy" games that its willing to save. Maybe BF2 and Dead Space 2, but not likely as far back as 1942

A nice gesture yes, but two problems:

1). BF42 is pretty dang old and

2). Being one of the original "online-only" games, it's more than likely dead and EA likely doesn't even support servers for it any longer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the game in the slightest. I absolutely loved BF42 when it was alive and thriving. Actually liked it far more than BF2 thanks to its arcade-y feel. Heck, the original game and its two x-packs (Road to Rome & Secret Weapons of WWII) are in my old CD tower still! Plus, with my physical copies I don't have to play it on Origin.

Thanks, EA, for giving out a free game that you already gave out for free.

In all seriousness, thanks for letting me still pick up Dead Space for free – I mean, I already have it on Steam, but having a free Origin version is always cool, and it's nice that I was still able to get it despite you guys offering a new game for free (that you already offered for free…).
