The Xbox One and PC versions of Titanfall led US retail software sales in March, according to new figures released by NPD. The popular online-focused action game from developer Respawn and publisher Electronic Arts had "a solid attach rate to the Xbox One," NPD analyst Liam Callahan said.
Titanfall is the second-highest selling game for Xbox One after one month of sales. While Titanfall and first-party PS4 title InFamous Second Son did very well in the month, overall software sales declined 27 percent to $406 million, compared to $555 million in the same period a year ago.
"Collectively, March 2014 launches sold 42 percent less than March 2013 launches," noted Callahan. "Last March we saw eight of the top ten games were new launches with games like Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Gears of War: Judgment, God of War: Ascension. This March saw six of the top ten games as new launches with Titanfall, inFamous Second Son, South Park: The Stick Of Truth, and Dark Souls II."
Total PS4 and Xbox One console sales were up "close to 60 percent" over their predecessors' first five months, Callahan said.
