Report: Google Reaches Deal to Buy Twitch

GamesBeat is reporting that Google has reached a deal to buy game-focused streaming service Twitch for $1 billion, according to "sources familiar with the matter." Rumors first surfaced about a possible all cash deal between Google and Twitch worth $1 billion back in May.

Google and Twitch declined comment on this story. The GamesBeat report goes on to say that "investors who participated in past rounds are pleased that they will be getting significant rounds that were multiple times the amount they original invested as a return."

Google’s YouTube division is reportedly in charge of the acquisition. Google acquired Internet video powerhouse YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion.

Twitch currently has more than 50 million monthly active users and more than 1.1 million members who broadcast video content each month.

    Matthew Wilson says:

regulators will not care because twitch and Youtube combine is only around 40 percent of streaming content Even though it is about 90 percent of user generated content. The FTC and FCC do not recognize different types of content.
