Former SSI Veterans Form Tactical Simulations Interactive

This one's for the old-timers among you: A new company has launched made up of former Strategic Simulations Inc. (SSI) employees called Tactical Simulations Interactive (TSI). The company features the talents of former SSI veterans Paul Murray and David Shelley, and David Klein. In its early days SSI was known as one of the best war game publishers in the world, but by the late eighties it managed to secure the rights to make Advanced Dungeons & Dragons games.

These games are commonly referred to as the "Gold Box" games. In the late 80's and early 90's the company published such AD&D classics as Pool of Radiance, Hillsfar, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, Pools of Darkness, and Unlimited Adventures. It also published several games set in the Dragonlance universe including Champions of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn, and Dark Queen of Krynn; several Dark Sun titles; the Eye of the Beholder series; and the Savage Frontier games that served as the core setting for one of the first online games, Neverwinter Nights (through a venture with AOL).

While TSI doesn't have the rights to the AD&D universe, the company plans to make games in the spirit of those classic CRPGs.

"Tactical Simulations Interactive is a return to providing the player full control of their party, with a focus on creating immersive and unforgettable story experiences, exciting exploration, meaningful social/political choices, and robust tactical combat," says David Shelley.

David Shelley will serve as Producer and Lead Designer at TSI, while Paul Murray serves as Technical Designer. David Klein takes on the role of president of the company.

TSI promises to reveal more details about its debut title in the near future at its official web site. The site currently features a countdown clock.
