Notes on Microsoft’s Xbox Gamescom Press Briefing

Microsoft held its Gamescom Xbox press conference in Cologne, Germany today, laying out a roadmap for the games, entertainment and services that are in the pipeline. We have the cliff notes below:

The Xbox One will be in 29 new markets this year, including many in Europe starting in September, according to Head of Xbox Phil Spencer. FIFA 15 will have exclusive content for Xbox platforms. EA Access customers can play it early on Xbox One. European customers can preorder a special Xbox One FIFA 15 bundle that includes an Xbox One console, copy of the game (digital), and a controller. It sells for 399.99 EUR

Blues and Bullets, Cuphead, Funk of Titans, Ghost of a Tale, Goat Simulator, Lovers in a Dangerous Time, No Time to Explain, Plague Inc: Evolve, Smite, SlashDash, Space Engineers, Spectra, Threes, Superhot, Space Engineers, Team 17's The Escapists, and a number of other indie titles are coming to Xbox One via ID@XBox. Microsoft claims that hundreds of developers are working on games for the platform.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is launching on Nov. 7 in Europe. A special bundle that offers a 1TB hard drive and the game will sell for $500. Pre-orders are available now and will be available in the U.S., UK, and Europe.

The latest Lara Croft adventure, Rise of the Tomb Raider, will be an Xbox One exclusive and will launch in holiday 2015.

The multiplayer beta for Fable Legends will begin October 16. Signs-ups are available now at

Frontier Developments' next game is a rollercoaster game exclusive to the Xbox One and Xbox 360. It's called Screamride and will launch in spring 2015 for both platforms. Frontier developed a number of the Rollercoaster Tycoon titles for various platforms.

Turtle Rock's Evolve beta will begin in January on Xbox One, ahead of the game's release in February. Evolve launches February 10 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. But the Evolve beta comes to Xbox One in January.

Two new cars are available now for Forza 5, including the 2015 Ford Mustang.

Forza Horizon 2 launches in September for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and a special Forza real-world promotion called Forza Fuel will be launched to support it.

Microsoft confirmed that a white Xbox One bundle is in the works and will be released in tandem with Sunset Overdrive. The bundle will feature the white console, a digital copy of the game and more for $399.99.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will contain Halo: Nightfall, a live-action show from Ridley Scott. Microsoft also announced the Halo Channel, an all-purpose Halo destination for Xbox One and Windows PC owners. Microsoft also confirmed that the Halo 5: Guardians beta will take place December 29 through January 18 on Xbox One. The remastered version of Halo 2 in the collection will contain the classic Sanctuary map. The Halo 5: Guardians beta will offer participants 7 maps, 3 game modes, and 11 weapons. Some of the items unlocked in the beta for the game will carry over to the retail release.

Finally, preordering and pre-loading for Xbox One will be available on Xbox One this year when Forza Horizon 2 and FIFA 15 launch.
