Anaheim Couple Sentenced For Imprisoning Young Children to Play ‘World of Warcraft’

An Anaheim, California couple have been sentenced for neglecting their two young daughters to play World of Warcraft over a three-year period. Lester Louis Huffmire and his wife Petra Huffmire, both 41-years-old and resident of Anaheim, were sentenced to five years in prison on August 5.

Both pled guilty to multiple charges including two felony counts of child abuse, two misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment, one misdemeanor count of contributing to delinquency of a minor, and sentencing enhancements for great bodily injury, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Between May 21, 2010, and May 20, 2013, the couple locked up their two young children (two girls ages 10 and five) while they spent all of their time playing World of Warcraft, according to authorities. Eventually a neighbor contacted authorities.

When investigators visited the residence they found kitchen appliances "covered in mold and cobwebs, stacks of trash, debris, mold, and feces throughout the home, a pile of used condoms under a stuffed teddy bear, and inoperable toilets," according to the DA's office.

They did not allow the children out of the home for any reason, even to attend school.

When the children were discovered, they were in poor shape. Investigators claimed the children had dirt crusted on their feet, matted hair, damaged teeth "beyond repair," and were malnourished. The children were taken into protective custody.
