Sony Cutting Price of PS3 in Japan, Phasing Out Some Models

August 18, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

Sony is cutting the price of the PlayStation 3 in Japan and discontinuing some models, according to Siliconera.

Sony announced that the 500 GB Charcoal Black PS3 will drop from 30,837 yen to 28,058 yen. This is a newer model according to the publication, designated by Sony as "CECH-4300C." The current Charcoal Black models, the 500 GB (CECH-4200C) and 250 GB (CECH-4200B) hard drives, will be phased out this month, along with the 250 GB “Classic White” model (CECH-4200BLW).

The price cut for Japan will go into effect on August 28. It may be a coincidence, but the price cut will happen on the same day that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax launches in Japan.
