Firaxis Hosting Firaxicon Fan Event in September

Firaxis Games will hold its first-ever fan event called "Firaxicon" at the Embassy Suites Baltimore (Hunt Valley, Maryland) on September 27 and September 28. Tickets for attending the two-day event will cost you $40. Tickets are described as "extremely limited," so get them while you still can.

Attendees will be able to meet members of the Firaxis Games team, enjoy a special "Evening with Sid Meier" presentation, get some hands-on time with the upcoming PC game Civilization: Beyond Earth and get a tour of the Firaxis Games office.

The event will also feature lectures, presentations, and panels from some of the sharpest minds working at the studio behind X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Sid Meir Pirates!, and the Civilization series.

I'd be a lot more stoked for Civ BE if I hadn't lived through the nightmare that was the Civ V launch and the years following it.  Buggy as hell, missing vital features (like savegames for multiplayer, ffs), and it took forever for them to address things.  We only just recently got dedicated servers, and guess what?  The geniuses at Firaxis embedded the graphics part of the program so deeply into the game engine that they are inextricable, and the "dedicated server" is an instance of Civ V running, graphically, with all the massive, constant waste of system resources that entails.  Oh, and you can totally cheat and look at the whole map...  -_-   I don't think I'll ever be purchasing a Civ game on Day 1 again, not after that fiasco.
