GOG.com's 'Last Chance' Promotional Sale

August 28, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

GOG.com is removing over 30 games from its catalog in a little over 40 days and it wants those who don't own them to score them while they can by offering an 80 percent off limited time discount. After the sale is up the games will be removed from the catalog, according to GOG.com.

Re: GOG.com's 'Last Chance' Promotional Sale

But ... why?  There's plenty of older games on GOG, so why are these ones being removed?

Re: GOG.com's 'Last Chance' Promotional Sale

Could be a lot of reasons. For example:

  • The contract they had with the developer/publisher is expiring.
  • The developer/publisher thought they weren't getting their money's worth out of the service.
  • The developer/publisher decided that DRM-free was not for them
  • Any other reason under the sun.

Re: GOG.com's 'Last Chance' Promotional Sale

I am considering getting Freedom Force. Any other recommendations?

Re: GOG.com's 'Last Chance' Promotional Sale

Most of these games are on steam and probably have been subject to lots of Low-price Key give aways. The gothics have been in a humble bundle iirc, as have Guld, Red Faction, Penumbra, Painkiller.

I still find it odd that they are removing games.  Did the developers/publishers of these games stop reselling though gog?
