Report: Ouya in Acquisition and Investment Talks

September 2, 2014 - GamePolitics Staff

According to what GamesBeat describes as "a credible source who is close to the matter," Ouya is in preliminary talks about a possible acquisition or investment in the company.

The maker of the Android-based micro game console of the same name is in preliminary acquisition or investment talks with Google and Amazon in the U.S. In China, it is also exploring options for strategic investments, the GamesBeat source claims. Further details about these alleged talks in the U.S. and China were not available as of this writing.

Ouya launched the retail version of its flagship $99 micro console in mid-2013, but the hardware didn’t sell as well as the company had planned. This year Ouya has changed its focus from hardware to software, inking deals with China-based smartphone company Xiaomi and Mad Catz in the United States.

Ouya has not publicly commented on this story as of this writing.

We will have more on this story as it develops.
