Former Rovio head of games launches Futureplay Games

Former Rovio head of games Jami Laes has revealed the "other opportunities" he decided to pursue after he left the Angry Birds maker in January. Laes has launched a new mobile gaming company called Futureplay Games, with plans to develop games that focus on the "view-to-play" model for monetization. "View-to-play" gives players access to gameplay after watching monetized video ads.

Laes thinks this approach to monetization will be easier for players to accept.

'PC Gaming Show' adds ten more participants

PC Gamer's PC Gaming Show announced that ten more developers have signed on to take part in its one day event during E3 Expo week in Los Angeles next month.  The latest companies to join the show include ArenaNet, CCP Games, Creative Assembly, Fullbright, Frictional Games, Frontier Developments, Nexon, Pixel Titans, SCS Software, and Splash Damage.

More Xbox One features coming to Windows 10 in June

Those already taking Windows 10 for a test run may notice a few new features in the Xbox App after its June update. Microsoft will be adding a number of new features including Xbox One-style "game hubs" (shows friends' activities in games and other apps), a new "Game Bar" custom shortcuts for recording video clips and screenshots and the ability to download and launch the Avatars app from within the Xbox app...

PSA: Mojang releases 'Minecraft' PC security update 1.8.5

Mojang has released a new update to the PC version of its popular open-world building game Minecraft that fixes some "security issues" and some other minor problems. What "security issues" it fixes, we do not know...

We do know that update 1.8.5 offers "better server validation for movement packets," "invalid beacon packets no longer getting validated," a fix for the exploit related to signs and command blocks, and a whole lot more.

Report: Xbox One version of 'The Witcher 3' suffering from nasty save game bug

After a thread on Reddit showing how hit boxes are all messed up in the game got an unprecedented amount of attention, Valve acknowledged the problem and noted that a future update would make hitboxes bigger.

Desura addresses delays in payments to developers

Diablo III gamers steal virtual goods, suffer real life consequences

According to court documents obtained by Fusion.net, back in the summer of 2012, Patrick Nepomuceno of California and Michael Stinger of Maryland, stole a bunch of Diablo III players' virtual weapons and armor then hawked them for north of eight grand. How? They tricked players into downloading a remote access tool (RAT) by disguising it as a link to what they claimed was a pic of a rare in-game item. Read more

The Strong Museum of Play partners with Nintendo veteran Masayuki Uemara

The Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, New York announced today that it will work with former Nintendo hardware designer and Ritsumeikan University (Japan) professor Masayuki Uemara to preserve the history of video games. The Strong Museum of Play is home to the Center for the History of Electronic Games.

Uemara, who is the program chair for the Center for Games Studies and Art Research at Ritsumeikan, will work more closely than he already does with the Strong Museum of Play to share knowledge, resources, and staff.
