Confusion Abounds on Xbox One's Connection Requirements

May 22, 2013

Microsoft's Phil Harrison seems to be on a different page than the rest of Microsoft - or at least his messaging was out of sync yesterday after Microsoft announced its new Xbox One console. First there was the whole dust-up over used games on Xbox One, and now there is some confusion on how long your Xbox One can be disconnected from the Internet...

Last week EA's Jeff Brown said that the company had "no games in development for the Wii U currently," but a statement from EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen noting that EA "is developing games for the Wii U," but not as many as the company is developing for Sony and Microsoft's consoles seems to contradict Brown's comments.

Microsoft's Muddled Messaging on Xbox One and Used Games

May 22, 2013

Microsoft's messaging on how used games will be handled on the Xbox One seems to be muddled, contradictory and confused as different individuals within the company offer out-of-step messaging on the subject. At issue is a report in Wired indicating that when software purchased on discs at retail or through the Xbox Live Marketplace is installed on a system it is associated with the purchaser's user account. Fireproof Co-Founder: Platform Holders Need to be Friendlier to Developers

May 21, 2013

Barry Meade, the co-founder of Fireproof Games, has a message for Sony and Microsoft: the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One need to be friendlier to game developers. Fireproof is best known for developing the atmospheric iPad game, The Room, which earned the augural BAFTA for best British Game. Meade says that developers who have abandoned consoles for mobile devices won't come back if the big players are not willing to act in a more reasonable manner when it comes to how they treat and what they charge developers.

Report: TV on Xbox One Will Use a 'Pass Through Cable' Method

May 21, 2013

During today's big reveal of the Xbox One Microsoft showed off how seamlessly television works on the system. Our initial concern was "how do consumers get TV onto the Xbox" if Microsoft doesn't have some sort of agreement with them to allow it. Anyone who has a cable operator that doesn't support HBO GO on various platforms will know exactly what I'm talking about.

Microsoft Reiterates that Xbox One Is Not Backwards Compatible

May 21, 2013

People hoping to hear that Xbox 360 games would be backward compatible with the freshly announced Xbox One will be upset to hear that Microsoft has not suddenly changed its position on the matter. Research: Childhood Media Consumption Not a Predictor for Adult Criminality

May 21, 2013

A recent study by Texas A&M International University chair and associate professor, psychology Dr. Christopher J. Ferguson shows that childhood media consumption is not a predictor for future adult criminal behavior. The long-held (and as of yet unproven) argument has been that violent video games or other violent media have a direct causation to violent crimes like school shootings.

Sony Bringing Public Restroom Management Game to PS Vita

May 21, 2013

Sony has released a trailer for a new PS Vita game that lets you be a men's room attendant called "Men's Room Mayhem." In the game - coming to the PS Vita "soon" - players direct patrons to stalls and urinals, keep the men's room sparkling clean, break up fights that might occur, and deal with other situations that apparently crop up in public bathrooms all over the world. The game avoids some of the other more unseemly things that happens in public restrooms, thankfully.

E. Zachary KnightThat is absolutely nuts there. As bad an experience XBox Indie Games was, the problems weren't with the self published side of things. Forcing a publisher onto independent studios is not going to help.05/22/2013 - 10:43am
