Microsoft Claims it Can Sell 25 Million More Xbox 360s

Microsoft tells OXM that it can sell 25 million more Xbox 360s even after it rolls out the Xbox One. The Xbox 360 has sold an estimated 77.2 million units since it launched in 2005. Speaking to the UK's Official Xbox Magazine, Interactive Entertainment Business Senior VP Yusuf Mehdi said that Microsoft plans to sell these 25 million additional consoles over the next five years.

Governors Highway Safety Association Praises Hawaii's New Distracted Driving Law

The Governors Highway Safety Association is heaping praise on lawmakers in Hawaii for passing a very tough law against distracted driving and another law concerning seatbelts. The law prohibits drivers from texting or using hand-held devices while driving.

While there are some loopholes for adults over the age of 18, for youngsters just about all device usage while driving is now illegal including cell phones, video game devices, music devices, and more.

BioWare Apologizes for Accidently Banning Over 100 Players in Star Wars: The Old Republic

BioWare is apologizing publicly for accidently banning 100 - 150 players in its MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. The company took to its forums to say it was sorry for banning over a hundred players for violating the game's terms of service. Yesterday those players received email notifications from the company saying they had violated the game's ToS and would be banned for a week.

National Endowment for the Arts to Host Webinar for Media Arts Projects Grants

The National Endowment for the Arts let us know that it will host a webinar on Thursday, May 30 ( 3:00-4:00 p.m. EDT) to help applicants understand the application process for securing a media arts projects grant. The NEA's Media Arts Director Alyce Myatt will conduct the webinar, which will offer an overview of guidelines, information on selecting work samples, and advice on preparing a strong application. All of this will be followed by a brief question and answer session.

CS: Global Offensive Community Will Soon Police Itself

Valve has decided that players in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community should be able to police themselves. With that in mind, the company has launched a beta of a new system it has called Overwatch. The system will choose reputable members of the game's community to serve as investigators. When playing the game they'll have a special "Overwatch button" that will alert them that a case is pending to evaluate.

EA Promises Support for PS3 and Xbox 360 Until 2017

While some may be worried that the PS3 and Xbox 360 would be abandoned as soon as the PS4 and Xbox One is released to retail at the end of this year, EA says that it plans to continue to support both platforms with new games for at least another four years. Chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen revealed the company's commitment to the current generation during his recent keynote address at the Stifel 2013 Technology Conference in New York. Games already widely known to be in development for the current generation systems include Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 and the next Need For Speed.

Newzoo: Global Games Market Growth at 6 Percent to $70.4 Billion in 2013

Newzoo's 2013 Global Games Market Report predicts that game revenues will grow to $70.4 billion worldwide this year, representing a 6 percent year-on-year increase for the global video games industry. The firm also predicts that the number of gamers is expected to grow beyond 1.2 billion by the end of the year. Regional growth in game spending will be the highest in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region at 11 percent. North America and Europe will show very modest growth in 2013. Read more
