NYU Game Center Makes All Lectures Freely Available Online

This week the NYU Game Center has launched its free online archive of Game Center Lectures with recordings of all talks to date. The NYU Game Center has been hosting lectures from video game industry professionals since 2009. The archives offer past lectures from such notable developers as Tim Schafer, Heather Kelley and Jonathan Blow - just to name a few.

New Zealand's Highest Court Rules Against Kim Dotcom

The New Zealand Supreme Court ruled this week that the 2011 raid on Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom's Auckland, New Zealand mansion was legal, according to this TorrentFreak report. While the highest court in New Zealand acknowledged that the search warrants used against Dotcom were 'deficient' in detail, it concluded that that fact did not result in a miscarriage of justice.

Professor Creates Supercomputer Using 200 PS3 Systems

Dr. Gaurav Khanna, a black hole physicist at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, has built a supercomputer using 200 connected PlayStation 3 systems to study vibrations in space-time called gravitational waves. His latest bit of research builds on previous research in 2007 when he linked 16 PS3s together to model black hole collisions. No doubt these are older PS3s because they are running Linux through the "Other OS" feature that Sony killed off with an update.

343 Industries Promises Free Stuff for 'Halo: The Master Chief Collection' Owners

Late last week Halo series chief and 343 Industries head Bonnie Ross apologized once again for the sorry state of online play in Master Chief Collection anthology on Xbox One since its launch in November, and vowed to deliver a patch and some free stuff for Halo fans to make things right. While Ross did not provide an ETA on the update or the free stuff in the pipeline, she did offer some details on what the company is working on.

Report: 'Dark Souls' DSFix Mod DMCA Takedown Was A 'Mistake'

What is now being described as a "mistake" and a "misunderstanding" had the Dark Souls community in a bit of a lather for the last several days. Apparently a company representing the interest of Bandai Namco sent out a DMCA takedown request to the host of a very popular Dark Souls PC mod. The company responsible for doing that is FDS File Defense Service, which was hired by Bandai Namco's US arm to remove Dark Souls debug mode patches from the internet.

How The Middle Class Would 'Win' in a Video Game

Games With Gold Freebies Revealed for January

Microsoft has announced the free games that Xbox Live Gold subscribers can get for free in January as part of its ongoing free game giveaway programs, Games With Gold. Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to pick up a free copy of D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, MX vs. ATV Alive and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition next month, Microsoft announced today.

UK Politician Not Pleased With Student Parody Game

UKIP leader Nigel Farage is a bit upset with a group of Canterbury, England students for developing a game that spoofs both him and his political party. According to a Kent Online report (by way of MCV) the game is called UKIK, and charges players to take control of a character named Nicholas Fromage. Read more
