HBO's documentary film about game addiction in South Korea will premiere tonight at 9:00 PM ET. The film, "Love Child," tells the story of two South Korean parents who were so addicted to the Korean MMO Prius that they neglected their three-month-old child to the point that he died. Microsoft has announced which games it will be giving away for free on Xbox One and Xbox 360 as part of its Games With Gold program. Starting August 1 and running until the 15th, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download Motocross Madness for free, while Xbox One owners can grab Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut for the entire month.
On August 15, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download Bethesda's hit stealthy action game, Dishonored for free. They will have until August 31 to grab the game.Read more
An investigation by Reclaim Your Game reveals that the new version of The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection contains SecuROM, the notorious DRM. Developer Facepunch Studios has agitated the Rust community simply by announcing that it is working on several other game ideas. It all started when it announced a prototype for a new game called "Riftlight," an arcade space shooter with action-RPG elements. Fans of Rust, the popular action survival game that was released on Steam Early Access, are angry because Rust is still in development and unfinished. A federal grand jury has added a racketeering charge to suspended California State Senator (D- San Francisco) Leland Yee's list of charges which includes gun-trafficking, corruption, and other felony counts. Microsoft has partnered with China's third-largest telecommunications company to sell Xbox One starting in September, according to Reuters. Reuters is reporting that China Telecom Corp. has inked a deal with Microsoft that will allow the company's 30 million customers to purchase the system by signing a contract. Verizon’s 4G networks soon will start feeling a little less unlimited for customers who don't pay for data by the gigabyte. According to GIGA OM, Verizon will start prioritizing traffic so that customers who pay for mobile data by the gigabyte get access over customers who use Verizon’s unlimited plans. The new policies will only apply when the network gets crowded, according to Verizon. Read more
In a recent filing with the FCC by The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (which represents Time Warner Cable, Comcast, and other broadband providers throughout the U.S.) the trade groups claims that ISPs are worried that Netflix will start charging them for access.
