Twitch Hits 100 Million Users a Month Milestone

Game streaming and broadcasting service Twitch announced that it hit the 100 million users a month milestone in 2014. Twitch was bought out by Amazon for nearly $1 billion dollars in the latter part of 2014, but the change in ownership didn't seem to slow the service's momentum in 2014; it increased its monthly viewership from 45 million in 2013 to 100 million in 2014.

'Torchlight II' Comes To The Mac February 2nd

But in more important and breaking news, Runic Games has finally finished the Mac version of its popular RPG Torchlight II and will release it to the masses via Steam on February 2nd. Yeah that is a long time for Mac owners to wait, but if their interest has not waned then they can grab the game on Steam in early February.

'PlanetSide 2' Community Secures Guinness World Record

The PlanetSide 2 community has successfully broken the Guinness World Record for the largest online battle involving more than 1,000 players. The record-breaking event, which took place last week, was organized by PlanetSide community group PlanetSide Battles. Over 1,158 players participated in the event in Sony Online Entertainment's MMO shooter, securing the "Most Players Online in an FPS Battle."

The previous record, 999 players in one online battle, was held by a browser-based game called Man vs. Machine.

Three Million Copies of 'DayZ' Sold To-Date

Bohemia Interactive's Steam Early Access zombie survival shooter DayZ has officially sold 3 million copies of its standalone version, according an announcement by the company. While the game is still in early development, it has managed to garner around 3 million players since its release in December of 2013. Steam Hits 8 Million Concurrent Online Users On Holiday Weekend

'Lords of the Fallen' Becomes Profitable, New DLC Announced

Lords of the Fallen, an RPG for PC, PS4, and Xbox One often compared to From Software's popular hardcore series Dark Souls, has sold 200,000 copies and shipped 700,000 - according to developers CI Games and Deck13 Interactive. Microsoft: 60 Million Halo Titles Sold To-Date

Microsoft says that it has sold more than 60 million Halo titles worldwide since the franchise debuted on the original Xbox thirteen years ago - Halo: Combat Evolved. This number is up substantially from the 50 million sold milestone announced in December of 2012.

That massive figure includes Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo Wars, Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Microsoft also claims that gamers have played various Halo titles for more than 6 billion hours on Xbox Live over the years.

EGS Sees 40K Attendees During 2014 Event

Organizers of the Electronic Game Show (EGS) announced today that the 13th annual EGS gaming event saw record-breaking attendance of 40,000, "further establishing Mexico as a major video game market in Latin America."

PSA: 'Super Smash Bros.' for 3DS Hits Sales Milestone, Wii U Version Dated

Nintendo made a few Super Smash Bros.-related announcements this morning including the fact that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game has sold more than 2.8 million units worldwide - mostly attributed to sales of the game in North America, Europe, and Australia. Two Million Copies of 'State of Decay' Sold To-Date

'Wasteland 2' Generates $1.5 Million in Sales

inXile Entertainment revealed this morning that its crowd-funded spiritual sequel to the classic Interplay role-playing game Wasteland has generated $1.5 million in sales in the four days since it launched. The crowd funded post apocalyptic RPG sequel launched on Steam last Friday for PC, Mac, and Linux. So far, the game is getting fairly good reviews from both critics and fans.

"We are ecstatic that the style of game we love so much has been embraced so well," said inXile founder Brain Fargo.

Steam Now Has More Than 100 Million Active Users

While announcing its new Steam Discovery update, Valve also revealed that the service now has more than 100 million active accounts, up by 25 million from the 75 million figure the company revealed in January.

Valve also announced that more than 3,700 games are available to consumers on Steam, and that more than 1,300 games have been added in 2014. That's a dramatic increase compared to the 304 titles that were added to Steam in the first nine months of 2013.

iPhone 6 Moves 10 Million Units In Opening Weekend

Apple had a strong opening weekend in iPhone 6 sales, according to figures the company released yesterday. According to Apple, it sold (combined) over 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phones in the three days since its September 19 launch. Educational iPad Accessory Kit Generates $2 Million in Pre-Orders

Educational game company Tangible Play has generated around $2 million in pre-orders for Osmo, its educational game platform for iPad, according to Gamasutra. One Million PS4s Sold in the UK Since Release

One million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold in the United Kingdom since launch, according to an announcement from Sony, making its current-generation console the "one of the fasted selling systems in UK history."

At launch in the UK, Sony sold 250,000 units in the first few days of availability, surpassing the Wii U's lifetime total in the country in short order.

GungHo Online's popular mobile title Puzzles & Dragons, has been downloaded over 30 million times to-date in Japan. The news was revealed by industry veteran Dr. Serkan Toto, who cites a press release circulated by GungHo earlier this week.

'Counter Strike: Global Offensive' Tournament Viewership Break Records at ESL One Cologne

The ESL announced that the ESL One Cologne 2014 event saw peak online concurrent viewership of more than 409,368 during the Counter Strike: Global Offensive match in-game or online. In addition Twitch saw 343,638 peak concurrent viewers, beating a record set in March by 153 percent.

"It's amazing to see the growth of Counter Strike: Global Offensive in the eSports community. Just five months after ESL One Katowice, we see ESL One Cologne 2014 break our previous record by an amazing 161 per cent," said the ESL's Ulrich Schulze.

Shovel Knight Developers Detail First Month Sales

Yacht Club Games, the makers of the ultra popular Shovel Knight, have revealed some interesting details about crowdfunding the game, the rough patch of living they had to endure while making the game, and the most recent sales figures. First the sales numbers: Shovel Knight has sold 180,000 copies in its first month, with around 15,000 going to Kickstarter backers and the press. 16 Million Copies of 'Minecraft' for PC and Mac Sold To-Date

Sales of the PC and Mac versions of Minecraft have surpassed 16 million copies, according to developer Mojang's official site for the game. The impressive number is up from up from the 15 million copies the company revealed in April and the 14 million copies it announced in February.

Minecraft Pocket Edition sales surpassed 21 million units in April, while 12 million copies of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition had been sold as of February, according to Mojang's internal sales figures.

Steam Hits 8 Million Concurrent Users During Summer Sale

Steam has broken the 8 million concurrent users milestone for the first time in its history - thanks mostly to its popular summer sale. On Sunday evening over 8 million gamers were using the service at the same time as the Steam Summer Sale began to wind down.

The last milestone for concurrent users on Steam - according to its stats page was around 7.5 million, which occurred over Christmas 2013. The new record high of 8,020,834 was recorded at 16:03 PDT on Sunday June 29.

The Steam Summer Sale ends at 10am PDT today.
