Sony's Jack Tretton Opposes Blocking Used Games, Claims Michael Pachter

In a recent episode of GameTrailer's Bonus Round, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said that Sony's Jack Tretton is strongly opposed to the idea of a console blocking used games. During the show, Pachter recalled a conversation he supposedly had with the SCEA president at an E3 meeting. He claims that he asked Tretton directly about the rumor that Sony's newest console ("Orbis") would not support used games.

New SSX Game to Include Online Pass

EA's next chapter in the SSX action snowboarding game series will have an Online Pass system within. All players (both those who buy new and used) will be able to access the game's Explore and Global Events multiplayer modes, but any in-game credits earned will be withheld from the player until an online pass code is activated. That code is included in new copies of the game, but used game buyers will have to pay $10 for a code.

A dust-up over 38 Studios' Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning locking on-disc content behind an "online pass" system has raised the ire of some gamers - which in turn has brought studio founder and former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling out of the woodwork to defend the plan.

Game Rental Firm Offers to Share Used Game Profits

The company is the brainchild of LoveFilm co-founder Lasse Jensen, which was launched in Denmark in 2008. Newzoo: 56 Percent of U.S. Gamers Regularly Buy Used

A new market study conducted by research firm Newzoo indicates that trading games is the most popular game of all. More than half of the 82 million gamers in the U.S. don't spend money on games, and of the 44 percent who make game purchases around 85 percent regularly purchase pre-owned titles. Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Possible Because of Online Pass, Says Developers

Battlefield 3 to Include Online Pass Code

DICE has revealed - to no one's surprise - that Battlefield 3 will come with a code needed to play the modern-day warfare game online.

The news was confirmed by DICE designer Alan Kertz on Twitter. His comments were in response to follower questions on the need for an Online Pass code for the company's newest title. He said that the decision to use the system was "because servers cost money, and used games don't make developers any money."

Warner Bros. has confirmed to Eurogamer that the Batman: Arkham City VIP pass (a code that comes in the retail box) unlocks the playable Catwoman content. PSN Pass Code Required for Uncharted 3 Multiplayer

Sony will be rolling out its PSN Pass for the multiplayer aspects of its upcoming game Uncharted 3. As it did earlier this year with Resistance 3, Sony will implement a "PSN Pass" code on Uncharted 3. This means that when you buy a copy of the game brand new at retail it will come with a special code specifically for multiplayer that you will have to activate the first time you play online. Should you sell the game the next person that buys it will have to turn around and pay $10 to get access to multiplayer.
