Where Politics And Video Games Collide

From what I can tell the game is not really about immigration policy or illegal immigration from the "intake" perspective, but rather about what happens to illegal immigrants when they get involved with ICE and deportation proceedings get started.

Illegal immigrants can get locked up for months with no legal representation in this country. Sometimes they aren't even allowed to communicate with the outside world when they're in custody. They generally get treated worse than animals.

Given the target audience I'd also guess the game explores what happens to families where the breadwinner or all parents are illegals, but the kids are US citizens. Currently the parents get deported. The kids don't...technically. Of course, you can't really leave them living on their own, so they either do get to leave their own country, or they get separated from their parents sometimes for life.

There you'd be wrong, actually, at least as far as certain upstate NY towns go. That's EXACTLY what happened in a few small towns there. Some racist bigots afraid their property values would go down when the brown people moved in called the FBI saying their hispanic neighbors were illegals, which they weren't, and the ICE swat team arrived in the middle of the night with semi-automatic guns. Wasn't just once, btw.
