There are numerous causes for violence. I doubt GTA is the but for cause, as in "but for GTA the video game such and such police officer would have not been shot." While violence as entertainment in a video game is offensive to many people who don't regularly play video games, horrific mind numbing violence in U.S. history predates video games by generations.
