Disclaimer: Sorry for a very long and un-orderly comment. Wrote things down as I saw it.

@MaskedPixelante
Everyone, let's all get ready to pack our bags and move to South Korea, since they have nothing against gamers. Hell, they got less regulation because it's a major industry. And at that, we won't get discriminated against except that we don't speak Korean, kekeke.

Seriously, I agree with JC, Shoehorn, Zachary, and anyone else that states that the "protection clause" in it is unconstitutional because the rest of the bill itself is unconstitutional and a big waste of taxpayer money. New York is really trying to dig itself into a deep hole, and it's gone down 80m below sea level.

On the bill:

#1: Do I smell peyote on these guys? 3 year minimum prison sentence for selling a "violent" game to a not-17 kid when, as stated above, first time DUIs walk away? Or how about repetitive speeders or selling smokes or porn? Those guys do it every day and all they get is a slap on the hand? This is madness.

#2: Once again, it proves that legislatures of all old persons do not know what in God's almighty heaven they are talking about. No research, no even buying a console and looking at it. Absolutely nothing. Besides, only way that this part is EVER going to work is if parents actually put it to work. Of course, a good percentage of current parents (minus gamer parents) are just flat stupid in geography (note that a BBC show did that) and what is actually happening, so it's a very small chance.

#3: "Like the Lanza bill passed..." is where you should just stop because he doesn't know what hes talking about. Creating a monitor to a monitor of content defeats the purpose, since all that the ESRB does is play through a game in its entirety, and slap a letter on the box with proper descriptors. Creating a monitor to review the process is madness. I agree with whoever said that the bigger problems in "Youth Violence" are Booze (fake IDs anyone?), Drugs (Meth is the big thing in my area), Sex (less than you think), Gangs et al.

#4: This, as said by those above me (kudos to you for catching it), shows that these guys KNOW that it's an unconstitutional bill and that it does not mean a damned thing to them by wasting taxpayer money to make themselves look good to the soccer moms/Jack Thompsons/anti-gamers by trying to pass bullshit (pardon my French) bills.

“The language of the bill specifically exempts computers and handheld systems from this provision.” -the1jeffy's comment

This statement here also shows, as stated above, that the lawmakers don't want to lose their complimentary computers from Dell that they use to jerk on when they are in session or their office. Research? This is MADNESS.

"it’s a sad thing that “parental control” doesn’t mean “being a parent” anymore." -conejo

Agreed with this statement, simply because none of my friend's parents cared if we played Quake w/ Tremor, or even drank booze (had we done it) for that matter. The current definition of "parenting" is letting your kid do whatever s/he wants to do and blame anyone else but yourself if your kid lands 15 to life.

ZippyDSMlee: Boyycotting only works when sheeple care, the masses have to want to care about subtleties, in general they do not thus why corporate gets as far as it does. However boycotting can raise a fuss and the bad PR might make them take note.

Talouin: @Quander, That fight is brand spanking new. People just don't know how to do it yet.

AM: @GP: Boycott is unlikely to be effective due to how few people would be aware/participate. That said, I boycott EA over their "3 installs then buy another copy" copy protection, so I can't say it's NOT a good idea.

GryphonOsiris: @Scribe, just read that. The reports are saying that is was a targeted killing. Odds are a bully, gang related or something.

SimonBob: I just glanced over some of the companies' game lists; turns out I was already boycotting three of them anyway.

gamepolitics: is a gamer boycott of atari, codemasters, topware and the other 2 UK firms who are extorting file-sharers a good idea?
